Castle and Fort Senftenberg
The Senftenberg Fort emerged from a medieval castle. The premises were used as a Saxon fortress to protect the city of Dresden until the year 1815. The centrally located Renaissance castle invites visitors to take an explorative journey through centuries of history in the Lusatia region. The exhibition provides answers for questions regarding the transformation of the landscape, the life and change of cities, villages and their inhabitants. A mining tunnel in the castle cellar built more than 80 years ago illustrates how coal was mined more than 150 years ago. The "Lusatia Art Collection" with contemporary art by more than 130 artists is also highly recommended. The castle courtyard and hall serve as a location or theater performances, concerts and small art shows every year.
