Christian-Morgenstern-Literaturmuseum
The life's work of the poet Christian Morgenstern is inextricably linked with the Galgenberg in Werder (Havel), on which the former Bismarckhöhe. It was from here that his gallows poetry, along with other extraordinary works, made literary history.
In addition to books and audio-visual media, the presentation also includes some media as well as some personal objects and documents from the poet's estate. Of particular literary significance are the typescripts of the works, which are based on the originals, correspondence, diaries and notebooks of the poet. Numerous exhibits came on permanent loan from the collection of the Central Archive of the Christian Community in Berlin, which holds the estate of Margareta Morgenstern, the poet's wife. This estate was acquired in the fall of 2022
by the German Literature Archive in Marbach, which is now supporting the museum in Werder.
The exhibition also honors the services of Margareta Morgenstern to preserve and disseminate the literary legacy of her husband, who died young.
