Haus der Naturpflege Bad Freienwalde
In the former residential building of Erna and Kurt Kretschmann, the doyens of conservation of nature in the erstwhile GDR, today the nature cure association (Verein Haus der Naturpflege e.V.) is taking care of a museum. The house built by Kurt Kretschmann himself preserves a documentation of East German stories about the conservation of nature and a small specialized library and many curious facts with a number of objects and photos from the life of the Kretschmann couple. Moreover, the museum showcases an educational and a display garden, a meadow orchard and a nature playground. The 16 m high owl tower nearby offers a panoramic view of the marshland of the Oderbruch area.
