Ehm-Welk und Heimatmuseum Angermünde

In 2020, the former "Ehm Welk- und Heimatmuseum" was given a modern home in two historic half-timbered buildings on Angermünde's market square. Under the motto HISTORY & STORIES, the fundamentally redesigned permanent exhibition is dedicated to large and small links between cultural history and literature in the southern Uckermark, the old district of Angermünde. "The Heaths of Kummerow" by the writer Ehm Welk, who was born in Biesenbrow near Angermünde in 1884, forms the common thread that links motifs ranging from archaeology to contemporary history.

The literary spectrum of this landscape also extends beyond the "heathens": a medieval ballad tells of Heretic Angermünde, later a professor of literature from nearby Schmiedeberg popularised the Song of the Nibelungs and a scholar from Stolpe an der Oder wrote about research all over the world. When today's museum was still a hotel after the war, the "Lemke murder case" took place here, which became the basis for the first penny dreadful novel published in the GDR.
