At first glance, a somewhat enigmatic object. A mix between bucket and can made from black plastic. The profile is rectangular. A first clue as to its purpose is provided by the lid with the logo of the German Reichsbahn Railway. The hypothesis: It could happen during winter that the water flush system in trains, especially smaller ones, would freeze. The Reichsbahn developed special cans to be able to still offer clean toilets to their guests. Filled with water, they were placed on the trains and allowed for manual flushing in case of an emergency. The rectangular profile made them save space and not tip over as easily. On the inside, a kind of collar ensured that no water would splash out while the train was moving. That is how it could have been conceptualized. Our specimen comes from the Museum for Private and Small Trains in Granzow in the Uckermark region which opened in 1996.
