
Museum Mühlberg 1547 in Mühlberg
Awarded the EU cultural seal, this museum is part of the plethora of central German sites related to the Reformation. Visitors can explore the reasons of Charles V. peak of power in Mühlberg or why the Spaniards swam through the Elbe River in April of 1547. The main object of the exhibition concerns the encounter of a Catholic alliance under the leadership of Charles V. and the Protestant Schmalkaldic League. Visitors should plan on taking some time for a tour through the medieval double city. Highlights include the former Cistercian convent, which has been preserved along with its impressive convent church, the abbess house, the refectory, the gatehouse and the provost's residence.
